mothers2mothers (m2m) is an African organisation that provides health care to families who need it most, delivered by women who know them best. We’re building a healthy, thriving Africa. Through our Mentor Mother Model, m2m employs local women living with HIV as community health workers to meet the growing and urgent health needs of the communities we serve. These “Mentor Mothers” deliver integrated primary health care services to dramatically improve the health and well-being of women, children, adolescents and special populations. 

About the Fellowship role

The Regional Grants and Compliance Fellowship role involves managing and ensuring adherence to grant-related regulations within a specific geographical area. The fellow will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Responsibilities will include developing and delivering training programs on internal policies, procedures, and compliance protocols. This will involve working closely with teams to enhance their understanding of grant management best practices and fostering a culture of adherence to regulatory requirements. The role is crucial in promoting efficient grant management and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement within the organisation.
 
Fellowship location: Zambia or Malawi preferred; other m2m countries of operation possible[1]
Employment: Full-time, one-year Fellowship
Starting Date: Between July – September 2025

 
[1] m2m is registered and operating in Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Zambia. m2m is also registered in the U.K. and U.S. 

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver training programs on internal policies, procedures, and compliance protocols for staff.
  • Work closely with the Country Team to enhance their understanding of grant management best practices and fostering a culture of adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the Country Office in gaining a thorough understanding of their awards and grants.
  • Foster a culture of awareness and accountability regarding grant and general compliance within the organization.
  • Act as a liaison between the Country team and the Head Office Grants & Compliance team.
  • Work closely with the legal department and provide ad hoc support on cross-cutting regulatory issues. 

Requirements

Experience and Education
  • A strong understanding of compliance requirements related to grant management, including familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and reporting obligations.
  • The ability to navigate and adhere to compliance requirements.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, as well as external stakeholders, to achieve common goals.
  • Proactive attitude to identify and address potential issues, seek out opportunities, and contribute to the improvement of grant management processes.
  • A commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards, integrity, and accountability in all aspects of grant management and compliance.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with major donors such as USAID, CDC, EU, Global Fund and/or UN agencies.

Must Haves:
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as finance, business administration, public administration, law, or non-profit management.
  • English-speaking. 
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Possess the legal right to work in m2m countries specified without the need for organisation sponsorship.
 

About the LGT Impact Fellowship

As part of LGT Venture Philanthropy's and Lightrock's strategic efforts to scale positive impact, the LGT Impact Fellowship was established to provide additional know-how and capacity to portfolio organisations and companies. Each year a limited number of professionals are nominated to work full-time for one year with the organisations and companies supported by LGT Venture Philanthropy and Lightrock in Africa, India and Latin America as per the above job description.
LGT Impact Fellows are part of an enriching cohort of like-minded Fellows. They benefit from various program activities, including a 1-week in-person kick-off workshop, webinars, access to the network and know-how of LGT Venture Philanthropy, etc.
