Saruni Basecamp owns and operates 13 camps and lodges across Kenya, in the Masai Mara and Samburu regions. With a head office in Nairobi, and more than 400 employees (a majority of them from the communities we work with), we are important partners of four conservancies (wildlife reserves owned by the Masai and the Samburu people) and play a pivotal role in Kenya’s government conservation efforts. We also stand for:

About the Fellowship role

The candidate will have projects management experience and strong skills in workplan development and progress tracking. The project coordinator will also prepare and present updates regularly to relevant management channels, ensuring that our goals are achieved. Objectives of the Role are:   
  • Liaise with managers and clients to define project requirements, scopes, and objectives that align with organizational goals.   
  • Coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring that projects remain within scope, schedule, and budget.   
  • Analyse project progress and, when necessary, adapt scope or timeline to achieve optimal results  
  • Assign roles and tasks to team members based on their individual strengths and abilities  
  • Help build the skill sets of team members and share learnings with other employees  
  • Achieve organizational goals while adhering to standards and best practices  

Fellowship location: Nairobi, Kenya 
Employment: Full-time, one-year Fellowship 
Starting Date: July/August 2025 
 

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure that all aspects of a project are organized and in conformance with timeline and deliverables requirement.  
  • Develop and maintain project performance database that tracks overall progress and achievement of milestones.  
  • Assign and monitor resources effectively to boost project efficiency and maximize deliverables output.  
  • Report project risks and outcomes to appropriate management channels and escalate issues according to project work plan.  
  • Serve as point of communication between company teams and external resources.  
  • Deepen partnerships with outside resources, including third-party vendors and researchers, to ensure projects timelines are achieved.   
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor projects progress, identify potential issues, and ensure compliance with design specifications.  

Requirements

Experience and education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management or Business-related field   
  • Professional certification such as PMP (Project Management Professional).  
  • 5-7 years of experience in project coordination.  
  • Experience in coordinating teams and vendors/suppliers.  
  • Proven success in a corporate setting, working with all levels of management.  
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.  
Must Haves:
  • The role is only open for Kenyan citizens, who must have all required statutory documents such as National Identification Card, KRA Pin, NSSF Card, Birth Certificate and Certificate of Good conduct.

As part of LGT Venture Philanthropy's and Lightrock's strategic efforts to scale positive impact, the LGT Impact Fellowship was established to provide additional know-how and capacity to portfolio organisations and companies. Each year a limited number of professionals are nominated to work full-time for one year with the organisations and companies supported by LGT Venture Philanthropy and Lightrock in Africa, India and Latin America as per the above job description.
LGT Impact Fellows are part of an enriching cohort of like-minded Fellows. They benefit from various program activities, including a 1-week in-person kick-off workshop, webinars, access to the network and know-how of LGT Venture Philanthropy, etc.
