About the Fellowship role

The Strategic Communications Director will be responsible for designing and executing an annual editorial calendar for Last Mile Health that encompasses thought leadership and restricted award deliverables, aligning with our overall donor communications calendar and priority advocacy days and events. They will be responsible for designing and managing a process to partner with leaders across the organization to develop thought leadership collateral (including but not limited to op-eds, case studies, policy briefs, etc.) to drive our advocacy and brand goals, and for managing the development of high-priority and strategic communications deliverables for restricted awards, including but not limited to videos. This role will also be responsible for designing and project managing a 20th anniversary campaign. This candidate must be an excellent project manager, with the ability to set strategy, work across teams to produce collateral, and publish high-quality and timely deliverables that will resonate with a donor audience.

Location: Remote if based in USA; hybrid if based in Accra, Ghana
Employment: Full-time, one-year Fellowship
Starting Date: July/August 2026

Key responsibilities

  • Design & execute an annual editorial calendar that encompasses thought leadership and restricted award deliverables.
  • Process manage our thought leadership portfolio, in partnership with the Leadership Council, resulting in the publication of at least 6 thought leadership deliverables per year (case studies, policy briefs, how to guides, etc.); and partner with the Director, External Relations to publish as least two op-eds/editorials per year.
  • Produce restricted award communications deliverables, which are high visibility and cross-team projects that require strong strategic vision setting and strong project management. This will likely include 2-3 videos.
  • Design and project manage 20th anniversary campaign in 2026-2027.
  • Build and oversee knowledge management systems related to content for the Partnerships & Communications team.

Requirements

Experience and education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred 
  • 7-10 years of experience in a communications role, with direct experience designing and executing on an editorial calendar and publishing high-quality collateral for donor audiences
  • Experience in translating complex, technical content into content that is accessible to a donor audience
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience project managing video projects (including drafting storyboards, creating itineraries for rural/remote areas, prepping interviewees, etc.)
  • Experience working collaboratively across organizations to advance a specific project or outcome

Must Haves:

  • Work authorization in the USA or in Ghana
  • Fluency in English

Each year a limited number of professionals are nominated to work full-time for one year with the organizations and companies supported by LGT Venture Philanthropy and Lightrock in Africa, India and Latin America as per the above job description.
