About the Fellowship role
Fellowship location: Nairobi, Kenya
Employment: Full-time, one-year Fellowship
Starting Date: July 2025
Key responsibilities
- Fund Establishment & Structuring: Support the setup of the investment fund, including integrating fund management systems, and ensuring compliance with impact investment best practices.
- Investment Sourcing & Pipeline Management: Identify, source, and evaluate high-impact investment opportunities in community-led conservation in East Africa, while building and maintaining a strong pipeline to ensure a steady flow of high-quality investment prospects for the fund.
- Conduct Due Diligence: Lead financial analysis, risk assessment, and organizational evaluation of potential investees, ensuring alignment with the fund’s mission and strategy.
- Post investment support: Provide strategic and operational guidance to investees, helping them scale, improve governance, and achieve long-term sustainability.
- Investment Process & Documentation: Support the development and refinement of the investment processes, including investment memos, due diligence templates, and reporting structures tailored to impact-driven organizations.
- Reporting: Prepare fund updates and impact reports for key stakeholders.
- Investor Relations: Assist in organizing investor meetings, fund-related events, and communications to enhance engagement and transparency.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in finance, economics, or business administration.
- 6+ years' work experience in impact investing, strategy consulting, or finance.
- Strong understanding of community-led conservation in East Africa and impact investment.
- Proven ability to source, evaluate, and manage investments, including due diligence and financial analysis.
- Experience in fund setup, governance, reporting, and compliance mechanisms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with financial modelling expertise.
- Ability to develop and refine investment processes and impact measurement frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for investment proposals and reports.
- Experience organizing investor meetings, fund-related events, and communications.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work in a start-up environment.
