Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA) is the national leader and convener for conservancies, we work to create an enabling environment for conservancies to thrive by ensuring conservancy interests and plans are included in decision making; locally, regionally and internationally. We facilitate women and youth in conservancies participate in decision making and benefit sharing. KWCA works closely with the national government, Kenya Wildlife Service and other conservation actors as a united conservancy network to ensure conservancies are recognized, formalized and integrated in national wildlife policies, laws, and plans. 
 
We believe conservation is not just about wildlife, it’s about people’s empowerment and livelihoods. Their action matters. We believe people living alongside wildlife determine whether wildlife flourish or perish hence must be at the centre of conservation and not just beneficiaries. We work to facilitate sharing of best practices, peer learning, networking and access of tools and information to catalyse conservancy growth. We value partnerships from development partners, conservation actors, government and private sector who support enabling policies, investment and capacity needed for conservancies to thrive. 

About the Fellowship role

The Resource Mobilisation Officer will be responsible for the overall coordination, planning, development, and management of a public and private sector fundraising strategy to mobilise resources and support accountability of transparent contribution management. S/he will be responsible for the analysis and management of all fundraising channels and activities, ensuring long-term, flexible and unrestricted resources for KWCA.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction in implementing KWCA’s overall Resource Mobilisation strategy  
  • Support the cascade, understanding, implementation and successful execution of the developed strategy with the internal teams  
  • Develop and drive adoption of relevant resource mobilisation policies that are forward looking and strategic to support fundraising activities  
  • Implement resource mobilisation frameworks focused on government and private sector donors (including private individuals and corporations both locally and globally)  
  • Provide guidance and direction for planning, implementation, research and analysis of fundraising, and realize the shift from project- to programme-level fundraising for all donors (governments, global partners as well as individuals and corporations)  
  • Liaise with programme teams for all fundraising activities and input in the establishment of work plans and budgets, and monitor compliance of teams across KWCA to the resource mobilisation KPI  
  • Identify training requirements to meet staff capacity development needs to meet objectives of the resource mobilisation strategies and plans  
  • Represent KWCA at relevant fundraising forums, and serve as the focal point for development of funding proposals and presentations as required  
  • Coordinate and supervise corporate engagement activities, ensure timeliness and quality of donor reports, while planning and carrying out donor visits together with relevant programme leads when necessary  
  • Promote dialogue and information exchange, particularly in light of policy decisions that affect KWCA partnerships with all donors (governments as well as private sector) at a local and global level   
  • Produce Resource Mobilisation Plans and Reports as per stipulated periods and requirements   
  • Work closely with the Finance team in development of appropriate budgets   
  • Maintain a network of corporate contacts and effectively manage and maximize these relationships   
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships for Joint proposal writing especially with credible organisations in the country   
  • Register with relevant fundraising associations   
  • Update job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organisations   
  • Maintain quality service by enforcing KWCA organisation standards and values   
  • Any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time by the head of Operations & Compliance

  • Understands scope and deliverables in terms of time, cost, quality and organisation benefit   
  • Monitors activity and articulates resource needs, dependencies and synergies

  • Co-ordinates a portfolio of multi-dimensional programmes

6. Negotiation

  • Partners with Suppliers and vendors to develop and promote industry best practice in line with KWCA goals   
  • Translates KWCA's organisation requirements into Supplier Performance Management processes   
  • Drives the design and implementation of Supplier Performance Management processes across KWCA   
  • Creates innovative partnerships that span the enterprise and reach beyond KWCA’s walls  
Experience and education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Organisation Management or related field from a recognized university
  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Management, Social Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, Public Health, Education, Communications or other related fields.  
  • At least five (5) years of professional work experience at local, and regional level with progressively increasing responsibilities in fundraising or marketing; of which four (3) years should be at officer level with international exposure.   
  • Understanding of corporate social responsibility an asset  
  • Excellent leadership, management and teambuilding skills  
  • Proven skills in information, communication, networking, advocacy and ability to relate to mass media  
  • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with private sector the government and international partners  
  • Current knowledge of development issues, strategies, as well as programming policies and procedures in local, regional and international development corporations   
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and execute ideas, as well as to impart knowledge and teach resource mobilisation skills   
  • Ability to guide and direct a team of professional staff   
  • Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills including engaging and informative formal public speaking   
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and statistical analysis software   
  • Good technical skills and ability to understand and propose solutions by focusing on stakeholder and organisation requirements   
  • Ability to communicate information, whether technical or non-technical to staff members and other stakeholders in a clear and concise manner   
  • Influential within the Finance sphere with the ability to bring together stakeholders.
