About the Fellowship role

To define, lead, and execute the strategy for 4G Capital's customer business training and financial literacy programs. This role is crucial in ensuring that all training initiatives effectively empower nano and micro business owners to apply financial knowledge and business skills, thereby maximizing the impact of 4G Capital's lending products, improving client resilience, and driving sustainable business growth in line with the company's mission to Grow Business with Capital and Knowledge.
 
Location: In-person, Nairobi, Kenya. Open to both local and global candidates. Organisation is willing to sponsor the right candidate.
Employment: Full-time, one-year Fellowship
Starting Date: July 2026

Key responsibilities

1. Strategy, Design & Content Creation

  • Define and lead the overarching strategy for 4G Capital's customer business training and financial literacy programs, ensuring alignment with the company's mission, values, and business objectives.
  • Oversee the end-to-end curriculum review, re-design, development, and maintenance of all training modules, ensuring content is culturally relevant, practical, and directly applicable to nano and micro business contexts in Kenya and Uganda.
  • Ensure all content adheres to adult learning principles and is optimised for delivery across four primary channels: Face-to-Face, Online (self-paced and virtual), Group Networking Sessions, and the 4G Capital Mobile Application.
  • Conduct regular needs assessments and competitive analysis to identify training gaps and opportunities, ensuring the curriculum remains current, impactful, and innovative

2. Training Delivery & Channel Management

  • Face-to-Face: Standardize and oversee the implementation of high-quality, impactful physical training sessions delivered by field staff, developing comprehensive 'Train-the-Trainer' (TTT) materials and certification programs.
  • Online (Digital/Self-Paced): Lead the development and deployment of digital learning resources (e.g., videos, interactive quizzes, short courses) accessible via web and mobile, ensuring high completion rates and learning outcomes.
  • Group Networking Sessions: Design the structure, content, and facilitator guides for networking and peer-learning events, maximizing knowledge sharing and community building among clients.
  • 4G Capital App Integration: Work closely with Product and Tech teams to integrate bite-sized, in-app training content and nudges that promote immediate application of financial and business management skills during the client journey.

3. Tracking, Evaluation, and Impact Measurement

  • Establish robust Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework for all training initiatives.
  • Implement systems for tracking training effectiveness, including client knowledge retention, behavioral change, business resilience metrics, and correlation with lending product performance (e.g., portfolio quality, client lifetime value).
  • Utilise data analytics and feedback mechanisms to continuously refine training content and delivery methodologies across all four channels.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on training impact, ROI, and strategic recommendations to the Management Board and relevant stakeholders.

4. Leadership & Collaboration

  • Recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team responsible for content creation, delivery quality assurance, and M&E.
  • Collaborate closely with the Impact Director, COO, Sales, Technology, and Product teams to ensure training is seamlessly integrated into the customer journey and supports key business metrics.
  • Manage the training budget, ensuring efficient and effective allocation of resources across all delivery channels.
  • Represent 4G Capital externally on matters related to financial literacy and business training, potentially engaging with strategic partners, donors, and industry bodies.

Requirements

Experience and education:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education, Finance, International Development, or a related field is required. A Master's degree or strong progress toward one is a plus.
  • Experience: Passion for designing, implementing, and scaling impactful business training or financial literacy programs. Some relevant experience (internships, volunteer work, academic projects) in capacity building, ideally for micro, small, or medium enterprises (MSMEs) in emerging markets, is highly valued.
  • Curriculum Development: Understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and a strong drive to develop practical, culturally relevant training content for low-literacy or financially underserved populations. Experience with curriculum development is a bonus.
  • Channel Management: Familiarity with various training delivery channels, including in-person (e.g., workshops), digital (e-learning/mobile), and group/peer-to-peer formats. An eagerness to innovate in training delivery is key.
  • M&E and Data Analysis: Interest in utilizing M&E frameworks and data analytics (KPIs) to measure training impact and its correlation with business outcomes (e.g., loan performance, client resilience). Basic data analysis skills are preferred.
  • Leadership & Initiative: Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage projects, and work effectively as part of a diverse team. Enthusiasm to learn team leadership and budget management.
  • Fintech/Financial Services: Understanding of the lending cycle and the specific financial inclusion challenges faced by nano and micro businesses. A keen interest in the fintech or financial services sector is important.

About the LGT Impact Fellowship

As part of LGT Venture Philanthropy's and Lightrock's strategic efforts to scale positive impact, the LGT Impact Fellowship was established to provide additional know-how and capacity to portfolio organizations and companies. Each year a limited number of professionals are nominated to work full-time for one year with the organizations and companies supported by LGT Venture Philanthropy and Lightrock in Africa, India and Latin America as per the above job description.
